April will be a “very decisive month” for Atletico Madrid as it fights to stay atop the Spanish first division and prepares for a Champions League semifinal against Chelsea, top striker Diego Costa says.
“We know everything we are playing for this month, but the team has the (right) mentality, strength and conviction and we will give it our all,” the Atleti star said.
The Colchoneros host Elche on Friday at the Vicente Calderon stadium in Madrid.
“The coach has said that every day is a final and we have to face it as a final because it’s a very important match for us against an always-difficult adversary,” Costa said.
“(Elche) has a good team, but we will try to play our game. We know that we’re very strong in our house,” he said.
Costa, a Brazilian by birth who chooses to play internationally for Spain, has scored 34 goals in 45 matches this season, including 26 markers in La Liga play.
Atleti’s Champions League opponent, Chelsea, has made no secret of its desire to recruit Costa for 2014-2015.
