Javier Bardem will join the cast of “The Last Face,” the latest film to be directed by Sean Penn, with whom the Spanish actor recently collaborated in the shoot of “The Gunman.”
According to the Hollywood blog Deadline, “The Last Face” will include in the cast Bardem, South African actress Charlize Theron – Penn’s current romantic interest – and France’s Adele Exarchopoulos, star of “Blue is the Warmest Color.”
The film will be shot in Africa and is on the point of getting the green light from the River Road production company.
Theron will play a doctor who lives in Africa doing humanitarian work while trying to endure the political conflicts that wrack the country.
Bardem will be seen in the role of another doctor in a similar situation, according to the entertainment blog.
Exarchopoulos’ role will be that of a jounalist who tracks the lives of the leading characters.
Bill Pohlad (“12 Years a Slave”) will lead the production team. Penn and he previously worked together on “Into the Wild,” “Tree Of Life” and “Fair Game.”
The original screenplay was written by Erin Dingam, who had a bit part in “The Crossing Guard,” Penn’s second work as a director after debuting with “The Indian Runner” in 1991.
“The Gunman”, by Pierre Morel, revolves around an international spy who has to clear his name of a conspiracy in which the organization he works for is involved.
Penn and Bardem head a cast that also features Idris Elba and Ray Winstone.
