Here are the primary reasons for abortion in America:

 

  • 25% “not ready for a(nother) child/timing is wrong”
  • 23% “can’t afford a baby now”
  • 19% “have completed my childbearing/have other people depending on me/children are grown”
  • 8% “don’t want to be a single mother/am having relationship problems”
  • 7% “don’t feel mature enough to raise a(nother) child/feel too young”
  • 6% “other” (this category had no further explanation)
  • 4% “would interfere with education or career plans”
  • 4% “physical problem with my health”
  • 3% “possible problems affecting the health of the fetus”
  • -0.5% “husband or partner wants me to have an abortion”
  • -0.5% “parents want me to have an abortion”
  • -0.5% “don’t want people to know I had sex or got pregnant”
  • -0.5% “was a victim of rape”

Statistics

From the Alan Guttmacher Institute:

  • 1.1 million U.S. abortions each year.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 (22%) of pregnancies end in abortion
  • 50% of women now seeking abortion have had at least one previous abortion.
  • The U.S. abortion rate is among the highest of developed countries.
  • 51% of abortions are performed on women less than 25 years of age.
  • Approximately 1/3 of American women have had an abortion by age 45.
  • Abortion disproportionately affects black and Hispanic women.

  • Wondering where you got your stats from. It’s a good thing that it’s no one elses business why someone else got an abortion. For some no reason is good enough. I guess it’s based on religious opinion about a fetus being thought of as a baby.
