Kiehne not ready for prime time
The Arizona Daily Star reports on an apology issued by Arizona Congressional District 1 candidate Gary Kiehne after remarks he made during a GOP candidate debate.
The debate also featured state Rep. Adam Kwasman.
Another candidate, Andy Tobin, chose not to appear at the event, which was hosted by the Pinal County Republican Committee. Pinal County Republicans unanimously censured the left-leaning Tobin in 2012, a fact which might have effected his decision to boycott the forum. The Maricopa County Republican Executive Guidance Committee also took the previously unprecedented action against Tobin censuring him by a 23 – 5 vote.
Although the focus of the report is on Kiehne’s response to a question about gun rights —- it’s his answer to the question on illegal immigration that actually merits being the attention getter. Gary Kiehne wants to put illegal aliens to work. If you’re an unemployed construction worker, ponder his full statement. It’s under the headline IMMIGRATION, and includes this view: “If you really want to look at the cold, hard facts, I challenge you to go to a construction site anywhere around the Phoenix/Tucson/Maricopa area and find a framing crew that can speak English,” he said. “If you like $100-a-square-foot homebuilding costs, you’re gonna love $200-a-square-foot homebuilding costs if you package all of ‘em up and send ‘em home. The truth is they’re here, they’re working.”
Seeing Red AZ has previously written about Kiehne’s tax problems.
The primary election is August 26. The winner of the Republican primary will face incumbent Obama-supporting Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick in November. This video shows Kirkpatrick during a particularly trying interaction with constituents at a Townhall meeting back in 2009, that caused her to run away from the forum and constituents to yell after her, “Don’t come back!” She was ousted for her unequivocal support of Obamacare although reelected after sitting out a term.
Ann Kirkpatrick’s political hypocrisy is front-and-center here.
