Police Employees Involved: Deputies of Columbia County, PA Sheriff’s Department
Police Employee Contact: Columbia County Sheriff’s Department
While at home recovering from open heart surgery one week prior, I answered a knock at one of the two back doors of my house. As I opened the door, one of the deputies spoke into his radio, “We’re in.” I was tackled from behind, thrown to the floor in a cross throat hold, and assaulted by five uniformed deputies. When they finally allowed me to stand, they showed a warrant for a person I’d never heard of at a non existent address. I lived at 392 Main St. Benton, PA in a corner property. The warrant bore the address 394 Main St. which did not exist. When they realized their mistake, they disappeared like the wind, offering no assistance or apology. There has never been any acknowledgement from the department over the incident.

Police officers raiding homes with the wrong addresses and wrong occupants has become a common occurrence. Unfortunately, it continues to happen because there is no personal accountability or repercussions for the individuals carrying out such acts without confirming their ‘facts’ are correct beforehand. -Editor
