Nearly everyone enjoys being recognized by friends and colleagues. But not everyone has the stamina needed to endure dozens of acceptance speeches. That’s why the organizers of the Webby Awards—described by The New York Times as “The Internet’s highest honor”—limit the lucky winners to five words of gratitude, or whatever else they’d like to convey.
On the evening of Monday, May 19th, the winners of the 18th annual Webby Awards gathered in Lower Manhattan with comedian and host Patton Oswalt for dinner and festivities in the old New York Mercantile Exchange. Publisher Zuade Kaufman, Editor-in-Chief Robert Scheer, Managing Editor Peter Scheer and contributor Donald Kaufman were present to accept the People’s Choice Award in the Best Political Blog category. Zuade delivered the speech supplied by Truthdig reader Lorrie Anne. Anne’s contribution was one of dozens suggested by readers who graciously answered the call to write our remarks—a move we thought was fitting given that our readers’ votes decided the award.
We extend a big, heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted, responded and continues to read our site, and offer our smiles below as proof of our gratitude. Check this space Tuesday morning to hear Kaufman accept the award.
