Elite Vatican: 3,420 priests accused of raping and molesting children – Did anyone go to jail? – EricsonReport.com
The Vatican released comprehensive statistics for the first time Tuesday on how it has disciplined priests accused of raping and molesting children, saying 848 priests have been defrocked and another 2,572 given lesser sanctions over the past decade.
The Vatican’s United Nations ambassador in Geneva, Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, revealed the figures during a second day of grilling by a UN committee monitoring implementation of the UN treaty against torture.
Tomasi insisted that the convention applied only inside the tiny Vatican City state. But he nevertheless released statistics about how the Holy See has adjudicated sex abuse cases globally, and significantly, he did not dispute the committee’s contention that sexual violence against children can be considered torture.
Tomasi said that since 2004, more than 3,400 credible cases of abuse had been referred to the Vatican, including 401 cases in 2013 alone. He said that over the last decade, 848 priests had been defrocked, or returned to the lay state by the pope. Another 2,572 were sentenced to a lifetime of penance and prayer or some other lesser sanction, which is often used when the accused priest is elderly or infirm.
Acknowledging the high number of priests sanctioned with the lesser punishment, Tomasi said it still amounted to disciplinary action and that the abuser is “just put in a place where he doesn’t have any contact with the children.”
The Associated Press in January reported that then-Pope Benedict XVI had defrocked 384 priests in the final two years of his pontificate, citing documentation Tomasi’s delegation had prepared for another UN committee hearing that matched data contained in the Vatican’s statistical yearbooks.
Tomasi told the AP on Tuesday that those figures from January were “incomplete” and that the data he provided the torture committee Tuesday – the first ever year-by-year breakdown of how cases were adjudicated – were complete.
He told the committee that “there is no climate of impunity but there is a total commitment to clean the house” and prevent more abuse.
“I think we have crossed a threshold so to say in our evolution of the approach to these problems,” he concluded. “It’s clear that the issue of sexual abuse of children, which is a worldwide plague and scourge, has been addressed in the last 10 years by the church in a systematic, comprehensive, constructive way.”

Words havn’t been invented yet to describe the entire organisation. When they do create those words, they’ll be so dark and full of evil that they’ll have to be locked securely away in a vault, for fear that innocent eyes may see them.
All the “big” 3 religions have such abuse at their centre, such depravity and disregard of innocence, greedy self serving war mongering money pilfering child abusing scum.
And the populace go to their shops (Churches) and buy their filth (lies), often with their hard earned money.
If you claim to be a Christian, Catholic or Muslim. You have simply been duped into servitude and mind control.
If you really believe in a “God” trust your own instincts if they havnt been mentally beaten out of your obviously inferior weak minds, its in the DNA and Genes, like father like son, like Mother like daughter and so on.
Religion is an inherited disease upon innocent children, nurtured into full blown delusional paranoia by adulthood.
It’s so sad that we’ve lost many past and present fellow humans to this curse, but we must continue to support them through their delusions, until one day, just one day, they turn their backs on any type of religious leadership, especially those who are driven about in Rolls Royces whilst wearing Rolex’s and dining on fine 7 course dinners with 40 yr old wine, in the company of weapons dealers, terrorists, heads of State and paedophiles.
Go on you believers, keep ignoring it until you address these people by the only response they understand, force. That they will keep f’ing your children and stealing your wages and encouraging you to despise all those foreign and alien to you. They are promising you heaven but denying you the Earth. But of course, they’ve mapped your minds and know exactly how to play you like foolish children. 2000 years of intense psychological study carried out by all religions into how to influence and control their masses. Even by changing and adapting their instruction manual to suit media pressure, what a fine example to follow.
