WASHINGTON – Why are House Republicans so intent on convening a special committee to investigate what went awry in Benghazi Sept. 11, 2012?
It’s part of a conspiracy somehow involving the Koch brothers, he says in an official statement on the Senate majority leader’s website.
“Republicans are showing yet again that they have nothing to offer the middle class,” says his press release. “Republicans care more about defending billionaires like the Koch brothers and trying to rekindle debunked right-wing conspiracy theories than raising the minimum wage or ensuring women receive equal pay for equal work.”
The investigation announced this week is looking at the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission by a heavily armed group of between 125 and 150 gunmen who killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and another diplomat. Several hours later in the early morning of the next day, a second assault targeted a nearby CIA annex in a different compound about a mile away, killing two embassy security personnel. Ten others were injured in the attacks.
