As the World Wide Web turns 25, we check out the top ten websites which changed the way we work, shop and play. Here’s the top ten list.

 

10. Yahoo:

It was one of the most visited websites on the internet from 1994 to the time when Google gained popularity in the 2000s. Yahoo has many branches such as Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo news, Yahoo ads, their search engine and Yahoo games. However, the most popular among all is  the Yahoo messenger, which was the first to gain popularity in terms of chatrooms. Though Google has swapped places with Yahoo for the top spot,  it’s still safest and tops many top 10 messengers of all time. According to comScore, Yahoo during July 2013 surpassed Google on the number of United States visitors to its Web sites for the first time since May 2011, set at 196 million United States visitors, having increased by 21 percent in a year.

 

9. Pandora:

This website has made a name for itself in the field of music. As listening to music is the most common hobby of the people all over the world: CDs, MP3s, music cassettes and radio station fulfill their need. But the change in the field came with this online radio website where one can create their own music station and listen to music of his/her own tastes. This introduced a new chapter in the life of music lovers where they can create their own music bands, station and fill a new colour in their monotonous lives.

There was a time when Twitter was just a normal everyday website that no one really used, but then all of the sudden, something changed and everyone was registering to use Titter. TODAY, a person without a twitter account is considered to be old school. Ranging from celebs, to politicians to scientists…almost everyone is using Twitter. Most businesses have twitter accounts as well for lead generation and social networking.

 

7. Craigslist

You need advertisement; without it your business would be dead. If you were ever used Craigslist before, you are perhaps familiar with the problems related to spam’s, security and non- existed unorganized ads. Spam, security issues, and unorganized ads were a problem before Craigslist was invented, but some experts feel that the company has exasperated it to the extreme. But hey, Craigslist helped me find 3 jobs, so I am grateful to them.

Yet anptjer shopping website has gained new levels of popularity by making itself a far more ahead then others bid site. It is one of biggest shopping website, which has its branches located in more than 30 countries and has all the eye catchy features, which doesn’t allow its customers to go to any other store.

It is the world’s largest online retailer.Amazon.com began as just an online bookstore, but soon diversified, now selling DVDs, VHSs, CDs, video and MP3 downloads/streaming, software, video games, and much more.The company also produces consumer electronics—notably the Amazon Kindle e-book reader and the Kindle Fire tablet computer—and is a major provider of cloud computing services. Jeff Bazos is the current CEO. Amazon has separate retail websites for United Kingdom,  Canada, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Spain, Australia, Brazil, China, India and Mexico, with international shipping to certain other countries for some of its products. The site has revolutionized the internet world by allowing consumers to buy things quickly and cheap.
