it is well known that the candidate who spends more money is almost certainly going to win the election. This poses a dilemma in a democracy, because it allows a few wealthy donors to bankroll a candidate who will then be beholden to them for his place in office. The idea of a democracy is that every citizen has equal say, so allowing the rich to control elections is anathema to the very system we erected for ourselves.
It is for this reason that campaign finance laws were first passed. By limiting the amount of money a person could donate, and limiting the number of candidates one could donate to, inequalities in wealth in our country would not lead to inequalities at the voting booth. Unfortunately, these important laws have been undermined over the years.
The Supreme Court, with its decisions in the Citizens United and McCutcheoncases, has effectively eviscerated campaign finance laws. Only the most tenuous restrictions remain, and these may be next on the chopping block. Something needs to be done. MOREHERE
This properly ratified original but hidden 13th amendment ALREADY exists, 1812 the amendment was voted on and passed but the illegal 43rd congress that met during the civil war quite skillfully pushed the original 13th amendment and replaced it with the current 13th amendment.
