A new software from Apple called CarPlay will allow drivers to access their iPhone features including calls, messages, music and maps, through Siri voice control, built-in display touchscreen, and controls embedded in their steering wheel. The CarPlay system makes it possible to connect an Apple mobile device running iOS7 to the car via connector.
This fully integrated iPhone experience represents an opportunity for Apple to push its own tools including Siri voice control, maps, iTunes and other apps over its competition. In addition, CarPlay will support select third party applications including Beats Music, iHeartRadio, Spotify, and more.
“iPhone users always want their content at their fingertips and CarPlay lets drivers use their iPhone in the car with minimized distraction. We have an amazing lineup of auto partners rolling out CarPlay, and we’re thrilled it will make its debut this week in Geneva.” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing.
The CarPlay will be compatible with the latest iPhone models including iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and available on models from major car manufacturers including Volvo, Mercedez-Benz, Honda, Ferrari, Hyundai and Jaguar and on future models of other project partners.
