One of the victims of a shooting Sunday in Las Vegas that left five people dead was a good guy with a gun who actually tried to stop the perpetrators from continuing their attack, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Shortly after Amanda and Jared Miller ambushed and murdered two police officers at a pizzeria, they headed to a local Walmart where Jared fired a shot into the air, telling everyone to go outside.
That’s when 31-year-old Joseph Robert Wilcox, a licensed concealed-carry permit holder, prepared to confront Jared.
However, according to one official, Wilcox did not realize that Jared was accompanied by Amanda, who was standing off to the side with a shopping cart.
Before Wilcox could engage Jared and fire a shot, Amanda snuck up from behind him and fatally shot him at close range in the ribs.
“He [Wilcox] had no idea the wife was walking behind him,” said the official. “This guy was not some idiot with a gun. To me, he was a hero. He was trying to stop an active shooter.”
Once police arrived on the scene a brief gunfight erupted until Amanda shot Jared several times and then turned the gun on herself.
Watch this video for the details of Wilcox’s heroic attempt to stop the couple.
