Health Workers Walk Out To Defend The NHS

(Before It's News)

HEALTH workers will walk out across England tomorrow in the fight against the Con-Dem coalition’s vicious attack on the NHS.

People are set to lobby the NHS Confederation meeting in Liverpool and protest outside the Department of Health in London against ministers’ assault on their pay.

Health union Unison called on all healthcare workers, including nurses, paramedics, porters, cleaners, cooks, therapists and healthcare assistants to rally outside hospitals and workplaces.

The government’s current offer includes a 1 per cent rise for some workers but leaves 60 per cent of NHS with nothing.

The Unite union’s 100,000 NHS members “strongly rejected” the deal, with ministers offering “insult after insult.”

Unite said a “concerted campaign” by 1.3 million NHS staff, their unions including Unison and GMB and professional organisations is needed to force the government to negotiate.

If necessary the fight will go on until next year’s general election, putting the “NHS in meltdown” centre stage.

Unite head of health Rachael Maskell said: “It is time that Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt sat down with the unions and listened to our proposals for fair pay for the biggest workforce in this country.

“If the government fails to address the problems of this year’s controversial 1 per cent ‘divide and rule’ pay offer, Unite will have no choice but to escalate its campaign.”
