Many teachers talk about reality as an illusion, and despite how much it makes sense when they talk about it, it can be really difficult to really grasp it. I’ve personally found the best way to explain it is by comparing it to our dreams.
In your dreams, all of your senses are working as if you were awake. Certain aspects of the dream might be completely off but, unless you’re lucid, you feel completely awake. You see/smell/touch in your own little world and it feels like you’re moving around, but really… you’re not! You’re just lying in bed and everything is happening in your head. You’re creating an imaginary world inside of your head that makes you feel like you’re experiencing something very real, yet it’s all just projected images that include smells, physical sensations, sounds and more, a very sophisticated illusion.
Take some time to ponder on where all these images/sensations come from.
