If you've been following the news coverage of the Cantor-Brat primary, you've probably seen an uptick in stories about a new poll that supposedly shows voters in Virginia's 7th district overwhelmingly want to pass the Senate amnesty bill — despite voting for Dave Brat, a man who made his opposition to the bill the centerpiece of his campaign.

Please see my blog on how this poll is successfully duping some of the media, even causing Politico to report a blatant falsehood that somehow made it past the editors.

Both the poll and Politico's interpretation imply that the legislation requires enforcement before legalization when in fact the truth (as Senators Schumer and Rubio will tell you) is exactly the opposite.

The poll is worded to falsely imply (without explicitly lying) that the Senate bill is enforcement-first. But Politico actually reported that unauthorized aliens would have to wait 13 years to get legal status.

The error is likely an honest mistake born of ignorance. Nearly a year after the Senate passed S. 744 there has been almost no acknowledgment from the mainstream media that the bill grants legal status and work permits before any prevention measures are put in place to ensure future limits are observed. Low-information voters are the targets of these polls, but the media that keeps them that way are susceptible to manipulation as well.
