Virgin killer Elliot Rodger’s killing spree and suicide in Santa Barbara, California on May 23 has caused conspiracy theorists to claim that the deeply troubled 22-year-old was part of the US government’s mind control program. The alleged motive: to create a political climate where the Second Amendment, the “right of the people to keep and bear arms”, can be curtailed. The main ‘evidence’ for these claims being that the killer’s father was an assistant director on The Hunger Games which was linked by some to the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. Suzanne Collins, author of the original dystopian novel, lives in Sandy Hook. While this ‘evidence’ is not proof of anything, there is no question that the US did at one time have a mind control program.
