The Need to Grow is a positive new film by Ryan Wirick and Earth Conscious Films that explores tons of options on the individual level towards feeding the world without destroying the earth.

Was there ever a real food crisis?

In this next segment, Nick Bernabe of the Anti-Media and March Against Monsanto discusses the three benefits of gardening.

It’s just one of the many approaches in the film that flips agriculture on its head.

He says:

If we’re able to cut out the government, cut out the corporations, and then go consumer-direct cooperatives where we’re growing our own food, supplying our own power … the more we can do that, the more we starve the beast. And at the same time we build community and we build local economy.

This awareness documentary stars Vandana Shiva, Larry Santoyo, Erik Cutter, Karen and Colin Archipley, David King, Nick Bernabe, Howard Vlieger, Zen Honeycutt, Alicia Serratos, Monica Serratos, Aaron Flora, and many more. Still in production – coming soon.

From the description page – Couldn’t have said it any better!

Feeding the world starts with understanding food production as an ecological system that includes all of humankind, all the animals, the rivers, the oceans, and the microbes — rather than an industry artificially cut-off from nature.

The problem is the solution. The problem is the need for agribusiness to grow profits without regard for the environment. The solution is the need to grow healthy food at the local level.
The bottom line is that the current food system is a failed experiment. It has a built-in expiration date because it destroys the planet’s living soil and biodiversity faster than it can be replenished. In other words, it is a dangerous, obsolete progress trap, incapable of feeding the world, and if things don’t change, destined to destroy it. [emphasis added]

The new food ecosystem proposed in this film will regenerate the soil, support biodiversity, produce far more nutrition per acre, conserve water, require no toxic chemicals or GMOs, empower people at the local level, and never expire.

And best of all, it’s already happening!

As you can see from the preview – there’s more than one way to feed the world.

What do you think – is it time to flip agriculture? Time for a paradigm shift?
