Blog del Narco: El Chapo and La Barbie Hunger Strike A Victory
Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who was regarded as the “Worlds Most Powerful” drug dealer has won his first battle at the maximum security prison El Altiplano. Along with “La Barbie”, the two initiated a hunger strike that quickly spread throughout the prison.
Authorities quickly conceded on a couple of the demands. Prisoners will be given new shoes and clothing, they will be served more food but it will be the same poor quality, and they will allow prisoners to purchase more goods from the prison store, like toilet paper.
Strikers will also be allowed to make 3 attempts to make phone calls to their families. Previously if the call was not connected or the line was busy they had to wait 9 days to try the call again.
With 2/3 of the prison population participating in the strike it has now been called off.
