Gov. Perry’s bold border action: Left v. Right views
After it was announced that Texas Gov. Rick Perry was deploying 1,000 National Guard troops to his state’s southern border to provide much-needed security, the liberal Dallas Morning News ran with this headline, “Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s border sheriffs pan Perry’s plan to send National Guardsmen.”
Perry described his decision as an imperative response to help U.S. Border Patrol agents overwhelmed by an estimated flood of 60,000 unaccompanied children from Central America who have arrived since October. With border security spread thin and distracted, drug cartels and human traffickers might push into a state where their crimes already have taken a toll, he said. At the current rate, the illegal arrivals, mainly from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and, of course, Mexico, are expected to reach 90,000 by fall.

The time has come to deduct the costs of this invasion from the foreign aid cash-strapped American taxpayers are ponying up to send to these countries that hold the United States, our sovereignty, rule of law and generosity in utter disdain. In 2013, El Salvador got $27 million, Guatemala received $84 million, Honduras took in $52 million and Mexico put its hooks in us to the tune of $265 million.
