Just In: Trey Gowdy Is About To Raise Hell In Benghazi Investigation

Though there have been few updates from the House investigation into the 2012 terrorist attack of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy offered some insight into what is to come. The former prosecutor was tasked with heading the inquiry; and according to a Politico report this week, he is preparing to unleash his special committee designed to dig for details regarding America’s response to the ambush that left four Americans dead.

He criticized the cursory questioning of witnesses including Hillary Clinton, who served as secretary of state during the attack.

“There is most assuredly a place for hearings,” he said of his plans for the investigation, “but not if your primary focus is to gather facts.”

As part of his in-depth approach to the investigation, Gowdy revealed that a number of private meetings, potentially including a viewing of video footage from the scene of the attack, are scheduled with officials with knowledge of the deadly incident and its aftermath.

Working with committee members from both parties, the Republican congressman asserted that his intention is not to trash the other side but to unveil the truth.

“I don’t want to appear naïve,” he said, “but I do hold out some hope that a few things left remaining in politics, or in our society, can be above politics.”
