His compatriots regard Fred as the worst player on the Brazilian national side set to square off Friday against Colombia in a World Cup quarterfinal, according to a Datafolha poll.
The match between the tournament host country and Colombia is set for 5:00 p.m. in the northeastern city of Fortaleza.
The Fluminense forward was rated the team’s poorest player by 21 percent of survey respondents, Folha de Sao Paulo said Friday, while 56 percent said FC Barcelona striker Neymar is the squad’s best performer.
Statistics support Brazilians’ negative appraisal of Fred, Datafolha director Mauro Paulino said.
Fred has scored one goal in the first four matches of the competition, compared with four tallies each for teammate Neymar and Germany’s Thomas Müller, Paulino pointed out.
Datafolha interviewed 2,857 people 16 and up on July 1-2.
