Top 10 Reasons To Not Be Christian

(Before It's News)

I recently read an article entitled top ten reasons not be an atheist…so I thought I’d provide the top ten reasons why not to be a Christian. Here are just ten I found floating on the internet.

The Rich Ten

10. “Christianity is based on fear.”

fear

While today there are liberal clergy who preach out of love, they forget that the majority of  Christian teachings, not to mention the large portion of Christian history. Throughout almost its entire time on this planet, the drive behind Christianity has been—in addition to the fear of death—fear of the devil and fear of going to hell. One can only imagine how bizarre these threats are prior to the rise of science and rational thinking, which have largely robbed these bogeys of their power to inspire terror. But even today, the existence of the devil and hell are cardinal doctrinal tenets of almost every Christian believer, and many fundamentalist preachers still openly resort to terrorizing their followers with cruel portraits of the suffering of nonbelievers after they die. What happens to others who come from different faiths?

9. “Christianity is too Egocentric”

egocentric

The deep egocentrism of Christianity is much reliant on fear. In addition to the fears of going to hell and seeing the devil, Christianity plays on another of humankind’s most basic fears: death. Perhaps Christianity’s best point in argument is its promise of living eternally. While there is absolutely no evidence to prove this right, most people are so terrified of death that they cling to this preachy promise insisting, like frightened children, that it has to be the truth. Nietzsche put the matter well: “salvation of the soul—in plain words, the world revolves around me.” It’s difficult to see anything spiritual in this desperate grasping at straws—this desperate grasping at the illusion of eternal bliss.

8. “I am not good enough.”

not good enough

When one proselytizes to Christianity, it is not because he, or she is good. In fact, we become devout Christians because we’ve been bad; just take a look at George W. Bush. We are sinners. I am too ethical and morally honest to be a Christian. In order to be a Christian, one must look at the old testament, look at the new testament, look at the morality of our society we live in, and then come to some mish-mosh of the three. To be Christian, I’d have to be less draconian than the others, less forgiving than the the others, and demand others believe that my societal-granted morality is coming from the best source of wisdom.  (Romans 3:23; James 2:10-11).

7. “It is too hard.”

way too hard

Being a Christian is hard work. Before one becomes a Christian they should count the cost, and commit themselves to Christ, whatever the cost (Luke 9:57-62; 14:26-35). However, you should know that choosing not to be a Christian will produce a life that is even harder (Matthew 11:28-30). To help us, God has provided spiritual tools that enable us to grow as a Christian and overcome this life (II Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 6:10-18). These tools are only available to Christians (Ephesians 1:3). If we run away from the difficulties of being a Christian, we will run straight into a trapped life of ruin and misery, which will bring insurmountable and eternal difficulties.

6. “I do not know enough.”

hell

Do you believe there is a God? Do you believe that Jesus is His Son, who died on the cross to save us from our sins, and was resurrected to give us hope? Are you willing to accept Him as your Lord and Savior, to follow Him wherever He leads you? His commands are simple: After hearing the gospel, you must believe, repent from your sins, confess Him, and be immersed in water into His body (Romans 10:8-18; Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:26-27). The rest will come with time and diligence (I Peter 5:10; Hebrews 5:12-14). Trust Him.

  • One should be forgiven for thinking that the author would display at least a modicum of intellectual honesty….

An easy mistake to make these days.

It is quite obvious right off the bat, that the author not only bears a grudge, but has not read the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christ’s teachings are Infallible. Read them, what fault can one truly find with them? Have not His warnings, so many being fulfilled at this moment, borne out the Wisdom of His Teachings?

Way too much judging of one another when we ALL fail daily! Tell me, how much sense does it make to judge Jesus Christ by the failings of some of his self proclaimed followers? Many of whom, by their actions, prove the utter hypocrisy of their claimed affiliation!

This too, was foretold, by Christ.

We judge entire cultures and sub cultures by the lowest common denominator among them…..SO UNWISE. We judge hastily because it’s easy and we are lazy.

Stick enough labels on her and we can smother the world! And that is what man is doing, and quite literally these days.

Yeshua, Jesus Christ teaches TRUE LOVE. And TRUE LOVE is the only way to a lasting kingdom. Hate is temporary and always destroys. What empires of men have truly lasted? What destroyed them all? Love?

Christ’s Teachings show the ONLY way to Everlasting Peace and a fair, balanced and perpetual prosperity.
