The crash of the Malaysian Boeing 777 shocked the entire world. The tragedy claimed the lives of nearly three hundred people, many of them children. Representatives of the Kiev authorities, militiamen and international observers are working on the scene. Many already begin to hope that the tragedy will put an end to the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine.
Rustem Safronov, international journalist, political commentator, Russia Today
“A lot depends on the position of the Russian leadership. If Russia neither blinks nor falters, everything will continue as before. The complication of Russia’s relations with the West is largely irreversible. Those people, who believe that if Russia backs off and it will all improve, and the world will understand and forgive Russia and welcome the country back to the family of the so-called civilized nations, G8, G20, etc. – they are making a silly mistake. Right after the reunion with the Crimea, the situation changed considerably, and no one is going to forgive that to Russia. It will always be used as a pressure factor.
“The U.S. goal is to destabilize the situation in Russia, and possibly to overthrow Putin, so one should not expect that the tragedy with the airplane may somehow de-escalate the conflict. How can the conflict deescalate, if Russia backs off? Military operations of the militia will cease, achieved successes will not develop, hostilities will be frozen, the Kiev government will be able to regroup its forces, and the offensive of the Ukrainian government troops will continue.”
