2 dead after domestic dispute turns into home invasion; Las Vegas homeowner shoots intruder (VIDEO)

A domestic dispute turned deadly Monday evening after a man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death and broke into a Las Vegas home, where the homeowner fatally shot the intruder.
According to a local Fox affiliate, Angela Tamayo, a young mother of two, was driving in a gated community when her ex-boyfriend, Scott Brown, crashed into her car. Brown then exited his vehicle and proceeded to stab Tamayo at least 13 times.
Tamayo was transported to a local hospital where she died a short time later, KTNV reported.
After allegedly stabbing Tamayo, Brown drove off and rammed his pickup truck into a nearby home before making his way inside. The homeowner and Brown, who was still armed with a knife, became involved in a physical confrontation before the homeowner eventually fired several shots at Brown, striking him multiple times. During the course of the altercation, Brown was also said to have suffered self-inflicted knife wounds. It is unknown if Brown and the homeowner were acquainted.
Once officers arrived on the scene, Brown was pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner confirmed Tuesday that Brown’s cause of death was multiple gunshots wounds.
Authorities believe the dispute may have started over a custody battle, as Tamayo was attempting to gain full custody of the couple’s daughter.
Brenda Chavez, who worked with Tamayo in the office of a construction company, told reporters she was devastated when she got the news.
“She was a very good mom. She did not deserve this,” Chavez told Fox 5. “She was very protective of her kids. [She was] a single, struggling mom that wanted to do the best for her kids.”
Chavez said the two women would often talk about Tamayo’s struggle to get custody of her daughter, but she never mentioned violence of any kind.
“I was so shocked. I couldn’t believe it. I can’t believe it still,” she said.
