According to the Washington Post, an individual familiar with the initial autopsy performed on Michael Brown found, in addition to the fact that he was facing a Ferguson, Mo. police officer when he was fatally shot, that he was also under the influence of marijuana.
While St. Louis County medical examiner Mary Case would only confirm that the 18-year-old was shot several times in the head and chest, an unidentified source elaborated that he had marijuana in his system at the time of his death. As reports indicate he was suspected of robbing a nearby convenience store and leaving with cigars commonly used to smoke marijuana, the development has sparked even more speculation regarding a shooting that sparked more than a week of violent protests in the predominantly black city.
Prior to the release of this information, rioters in Ferguson reportedly made public allegations that the officer, not Brown, was under the influence of some mood-altering substance prior to the shooting.
Others weighing in on social media argued that Brown’s use of marijuana is either irrelevant or is now being used to try to justify his death.
