Brewer’s unseemly primary endorsement aims to remove Montenegro
The Arizona Daily Independent substantiates the foul rumors that have become increasing rife concerning Gov. Jan Brewer’s plunge into the roiling waters of the Legislative District 13 Republican primary.
Following the template set by her mentor John McCain and his endorsement-happy buddy Bill Montgomery, Brewer is immersing herself in an unseemly pre-primary endorsement that reeks of retribution against conservative incumbent state Representative Steve Montenegro.
When Brewer ramrodded the late-night Medicaid Expansion (H.B. 2010) in June 2013, Montenegro criticized the maneuver, calling the governor’s move “disrespectful.”
The Independent reports “Brewer has secured donations from the healthcare providers who stand to gain economically from her expansion. Through her PAC, she is directing money to be spent against fellow Republicans like Montenegro.”
It’s more than an odd coincidence that lame-duck Brewer is enamored with first-time candidate Diane Landis, declaring she “understands the needs of this very diverse district.” As she throws her “enthusiastic support” Landis’ way, it’s well to remember that Landis approaches the illegal invasion that has reached crisis proportions in our state, with these words: “Arizona needs a well-defined, manageable, and appropriate legal guest worker program, that has nothing to do with citizenship or a pathway to citizenship.”
With this statement Landis displays her abysmal disconnect regarding the fact that those who disregard our laws will be disinclined to be “guest workers” who will then placidly return home when the job is completed.
Rep. Steve Montenegro is a legal immigrant from El Salvador. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Arizona State University with a B.S. in Political Science. He also had the temerity to call out Brewer on her unconscionable and unsustainable Medicaid Expansion, the passage of which was aided by nine House and six Senate Republicrats* who traitorously voted with the Arizona Democrats to pass this key element of Barack Obama’s signature health care scheme. For Montenegro’s outspoken opposition to OBrewercare, Brewer shamefully spends her final days in office throwing political missiles his way.
