Three Colombian soldiers suffered slight injuries in a car-bomb explosion in front of an army installation in the southern province of Caqueta, the military said.
Leftist FARC guerrillas were planning to carry out an attack in Florencia, the provincial capital, but when they saw soldiers on the highway between that city and the municipality of La Montañita, they left their vehicle near the barracks and fled, the army’s 6th Division said.
The blast soon afterwards caused injuries to three soldiers in the military installation from the bomb’s shock waves that broke windows.
“We must make it clear that there were no parallel actions such as the detonation of other explosives, nor were mortar shells fired at the military unit,” the 6th Division said in a statement.
The explosion did not affect traffic on the highway where the attack was made since the incident occurred well before dawn, the army said.
