Spain Has Welcomed 36.3 Million Foreign Tourists in 2014

In the first seven months of the year, Spain welcomed 36.3 million foreign tourists, 7 percent more than in the same period of 2013 and the most ever recorded between January and July.

The tourists mainly poured in from Britain, Germany and particularly France, a country that contributed during this period more than 500,000 additional tourists, while the only countries showing declines were Russia and the United States, which dropped 3.8 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively.

In July alone, Spain greeted 8.3 million foreign tourists, an all-time record for that month.

During the first seven months of the year by regions, Catalonia topped the list with 9.3 million international tourists followed by the Balearic Islands with 6.3 million visitors.

Of the total number of tourists arriving in Spain, 29.4 million, or 81 percent, traveled by air.

In 2013, Spain received 60.66 million foreign tourists, making it the third country in the world for tourism after France and the United States.
