This article takes a look at some of the funerals of famous people that are sparking or have sparked controversy. Who made it to #1? Let’s take a look. Be sure to comment with your thoughts.
10. Michael Jackson:
The City of Los Angeles found itself taking care of Michael Jackson’s funeral expenses in 2009 when the King of Pop suddenly died of a drug overdose. They spent close to $1 million to ensure that a proper tribute would be held for the mega star. The funeral, held in the summer of 2009, sparked huge controversy over the large sum bill. Two organizations eventually paid the city back, helping recover some of the expense. AEG and Jackson Estate both agreed to help pay about $1 million to pay for the costs of providing public services for Michael Jackson’s funeral. As well, they agreed to donate $300,000 in cash and equipment to the Los Angeles Police Foundation.
9. Whitney Houston:
Whitney Houston’s ex-hubby Bobby Brown was not welcomed at Houston’s funeral, but was rather invited at the last minute, despite contestations by other family members including Houston’s mother. He was allowed to bring just two guests to the funeral, but instead brought an entourage of nine. When he insisted that his group sit with him at the front Houston’s family fought back and had him escorted out of the church. Houston’s family members blame Brown, believing he was influential in getting the late singer into the state she was in when she died. Right after the funeral, Brown was flown by private jet to perform with the New Edition at the Mohegan Sun Indian Casino in Connecticut, leaving his daughter Bobbie Kristina to grieve by herself.
8. Robin Williams:
Robin Williams died on August 11, 2014 at his residence in Paradise Cay, California. Williams hanged himself with a belt and died from asphyxiation. His body was cremated and his ashes scattered in San Francisco Bay. The last few years he was suffering from depression and was also recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Many conspiracy theorists argue that Williams did not die of suicide. He was murdered by the Illuminati, which apparently he was a part of. There was also a blog post posted three months before his death, citing that Williams would soon die. Fans argue that these rumors are nothing but a hoax, but I’ll let you decide based on evidence presented here.
7. James Foley:
James Wright Foley, an American journalist kidnapped in 2012, was beheaded in an ISIS video released on Tuesday, August 19. ISIS is a terrorist organization located in Iraq. It’s protesting America’s intervention in the country and is fighting back against its air attacks that they claim to have killed innocent civilians. As soon as the video was posted on YouTube, conspiracy theorists argued that the video was a hoax. Some argued that the body was actually a CPR doll. Others argued that there was not enough blood and the sound seemed like the video was filmed indoors. Experts are still trying to authenticate the video and determining whether it is real or not. Until we receive Foley’s body, we’ll never know the truth.
6. Elizabeth Taylor:
The Westboro church group protested Taylor’s funeral. Taylor died of congestive heart failure on March 23, 2011 at the age of 79. The Westboro church group had issues with her activism for AIDS patients. As well, Margie Phelps called Taylor a serial adulterous f—hag. Whether that’s true or not, that is none of our business. What we do know is that she was married 7 times to 7 different men.
