The real question should be if Space X did it for 1/10 th the cost can the taxpayer get a refund from this non government private entity who always chose the most expensive porked way into orbit.
They are hiding every actual picture from Mars, if they have any. You are looking at landscapes and rocks on Earth.
The blacked out area is something that would prove it.
Nothing, in this particular case. If NASA wanted to block out something in a picture they’d not call attention to the fact with a big black rectangle. It’s much more convincing, and identical amount of work in GIMP (like Photoshop), to draw a selection box on what you want to disappear and hit ‘Heal selection’. Poof, gone. Missing content filled in with surrounding content so well you’d never know the pic had been altered.
Much more likely this is some sort of electronic or software glitch at the point of capture and storage, as evidenced by the blurred halo around the rectangle. That halo is an image compression artifact.
They have cut and pasted “Mars” images before.
Such that the same rocks appear in more than one spot.
And people noticed. A black rectangle is easier to get away with.
I agree that some pics I’ve seen seem suspiciously altered.
Algorithms for synthesizing removed parts of images have become fairly sophisticated. We’re way beyond cut-and-paste or even cloning.
Just for chuckles I took the original jpl image above and removed the black rectangle using a re-synthesis algorithm. Tell me that if you didn’t know this image is altered, you could tell without very fine analysis. Here’s a link to before and after, on dropbox.

There is no need for NASA to be using black rectangles if something is to be hidden.
Well. It’s easy. That’s the reason.
You should be asking yourself why all of our “Mars” pictures look like parts of the Earth, and NONE look like terrain that only exists on Mars.

I remember an extra large black rectangle blotting out a huge section of space just a couple of years ago.
That’s a cave entrance built by the lizard alien overlords hiding the particle beam weapon that knocked down the twin towers.

And your reference to them does not tell us anything about NASA or Mars.
But since you mentioned it:
The twin towers – and WTC 7 – were brought down by demolition charges. And low-yield nuclear bombs in the twin towers.
It is exactly the kind of destruction of public buildings dreamed of by the speaker/author of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, early in the 20th century. The plan, for over a hundred years, has been to blackmail the nations by threatening terrorism. The Protocols envisioned conventional explosives, planted covertly.
And it has been there in plain English since 1905 or so, when it was first translated. The blackmail conspiracy involving explosives planted in public buildings.
It has worked great so far. Israel gets whatever it wants from the US and the West in general.
As for space aliens, it’s not a new idea. Paul (2nd Corinthians chapter 12) said he knew someone who had been taken into the sky (heaven.) And Paul had this to say about who rules the world.
Ephesians chapter 6: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Principalities and powers are governments. “In high places” is also translated “in heavenly places.” (in the sky)
Here is another translation, NIV: “For our struggle is not against human opponents, but against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers in the darkness around us, and evil spiritual forces in the heavenly realm.”
And the German leaders who belonged to the Thule society believed that some humans were descended from space aliens.
One of the founders of the Thule Society and the National Socialist Party was Dietrich Eckart. Here is what he said:

But never mind that. Never A Straight Answer has been giving us fake pictures since the mid-1960s. Anybody who doesn’t know that either hasn’t looked into it, or doesn’t want to know.

the camera can resolve the equivalent of the width of a dime from 100 miles away, or a baseball diamond on the surface of the Moon.
Greg, thank you for including the URL. The picture was taken by the Left Navcam as you can tell by the “NLB” portion in the URL. Did you know to get the picture taken by the Right Navcam at the exact same time all you have to do is change “NLB” to “NRB”?

Nope. Nothing there.
Notice the Moon in Surveyor pictures doesn’t look like the Moon in Soviet Luna pictures.
We got fake Moon pictures, because we were planning a fake landing. And the fake pictures had to look the same.
We have never seen actual Mars pictures, for the same reason. In Viking days, mid-1970s, there was still a chance of a fake manned mission. And the pictures would have to match.
That is why our current pictures look like the fake pictures we started with, in the 1970s.
It is why you don’t see pictures of 5-sided pyramids, or huge mountains, or huge craters. The pictures you see are doctored versions of Earth desert landscapes.
