Six leftist FARC rebels were killed in a military operation in the central province of Meta, the Colombian military said Friday.
The clash occurred in Filo de Lora outside the town of El Castillo, when a guerrilla unit was cornered by a joint army, air force and police operation, the military said in a communique.
In the shootout that ensued, six guerrillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, where killed.
During the attack, security forces seized arms from the guerrillas including rifles, land mines, grenades and handguns, as well as electronic devices with information about their activities.
The latest engagement brings to 23 the number of FARC fighters killed since mid-July.
Despite the ongoing peace talks between the government and the FARC in Havana that began in November 2012, the Colombian army has orders to continue their operations against the rebels, who continue to carry out attacks.
