The Perry indictment is the act of a desperate party seeking to regain some sense of relevance and attention in a state that remains deeply red and this Texas girl not only has some strong opinions on the subject, I also have some questions for the few non-thinking Democrats who aren’t smart enough to cringe from the Texas size backfire currently underway.

1.)  Did you know that the Public Integrity Office is the office designed to keep government officials honest and free of corruption and illegal behavior?  I know.  It reverberates with irony because the woman at the heart of this case is Rosemary Lehmberg.  Lehmberg actually RAN the Public Integrity Office and this story actually begins the day that Lehmberg was arrested for drunk driving.

Lehmberg climbed behind the wheel of her car with a blood alcohol level of .239– 3 times the legal driving limit.  That’s a lot of alcohol.  In fact, it’s the equivalent of about eight shots in about one hour for a woman of 150 pounds.  And, if you’ve seen Lehmberg you’ll probably agree with me that there is far more “ounce in her bounce” than a mere 150 pounds.  This mean that Lehmberg was pounding the drinks and knew full well she had had too much when she decided to drive.  (By the way, I’m still waiting on an outraged statement from MADD.)

2.)  Did you know that Lehmberg wasn’t just swerving a bit but she was  actually driving southbound in a northbound lane of traffic when she was pulled over and arrested?  She was driving so erratically, not just going in the opposite direction as traffic but also in and out of the bike lane, that other drivers were calling 911 in a panic to get her off the road before she began killing people.

3.)  Did you know that Lehmberg was belligerent, abusive, and threatening the law enforcement officers with their jobs and their own jail time for having the audacity to arrest her?  In fact, if you’ve watched the video that they recorded for posterity’s sake and their own self-defense evidence you will see that she was so out of control with spitting on the police officers that they had to put a mask over her face and physically restrain her in a harness.  What an embarrassment not only to Texas Democrats but to the entire Texas Public Integrity Office.

Obviously, anyone with a lick of sense sees the irony dripping just from this part of the story as the Governor Perry indictment mainly stems from his verbal “threat” of a veto in an effort to get her to step down from her public position.  Most people looking objectively at this case would agree that a woman behaving in such a way has no business being in public office, paid for by taxpayer dollars, much less actually in charge of the office with the responsibility of cracking down and monitoring corruption and illegal behavior in government officials.  That’s the fox guarding the hen house!  It’s hard to imagine a Governor of any state NOT using his constitutional authority to responsibly protect his state from just such terrible behavior.  Which he did, and which he stands by, and by which he said he would do again.

4.) Given all of this information, my next question to those of you cheering a Perry indictment…Where were your calls for Lehmberg’s removal?  Where were your tweets urging Lehmberg to resign?  Where were your headlines calling for her to step down and be replaced with someone with enough moral authority left to fulfill the duties of their job?  I hear nothing but resounding silence because there were no such calls, there were no such tweets…at least from the side of the Democrat’s aisle.

Why?  Because you were more willing to sell out to a Democrat drunkard in power than have her removed since you knew that Governor Perry would have the executive authority to appoint the next person to hold that position.

5.)  This next question is said with a grin…How does a Texas sized backfire feel?  National Democrats are distancing themselves from this case as it’s now being seen as nothing but a ridiculous political stunt.  David Axelrod, the President’s own advisor, has publicly acknowledged just how thin and sketchy this case really is and has outright raised doubts on the validity of the charge.

In fact, most people had never heard of Lehmberg or her conviction before this was thrust front and center on the national stage.  They had never seen the shocking footage of her arrest and now the entire country has watched her and her deplorable behavior and more people than not are wondering why Texas Democrats are going after a Governor who did everything within his legal and Constitutional right to get a drunk out of her tax paying office -instead of fulfilling their own party obligations of removing her from office themselves.

6.) For those of you Texas Democrats who are accusing Perry of abusing his Executive power, I’d like to know where you stand regarding President Obama continually bypassing Congress with his phone and his pen?  If you want to attack Perry for this than you need to start answering some questions regarding your leader in the White House.

Hypocrisy is an ugly, ugly trait.  Especially when it is so blatant.  Texas Democrats smell pretty bad right.  It’s a joke in Texas that a Special Prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich because only one side gets to represent the case without any regard to it’s validity.  And in Travis County, without any strong Republicans on the grand jury, the only thing shocking is that Texas Democrats didn’t think this whole thing through very well.  They’ve simply turned this into a Lehmberg parody and given Governor Perry, who is coming across very strong and not looking at all like a victim, a national stage to capitalize on all of the attention.  They might be hypocritical and vindictive- but nobody said they were smart.
