(Before It's News)

Police in San Leandro, Cali. announced that they confiscated two AK-pattern rifles during a drug raid that were built with orange-tipped muzzles to make them look like toy or airsoft rifles.

Three other rifles were confiscated from the house along with $45,000 in cash. The house was being used as an illegal marijuana farm.

Three men were arrested in the raid.

Lt. Robert McManus confirmed that the rifles were authentic and not toys. “The officer is going to be forced to shoot to protect their own life or to protect someone else, regardless if it has the plastic tip on it,” McManus said, implying that his department treats all potential firearms as guns no matter how they are painted.

This follows on the heels of a bill proposed by state Senator Noreen Evans that would regulate toy guns and require them to have paint schemes to differentiate between real and toy guns.

The bill was proposed after shooting death Andy Lopez, 13, in October last year. Lopez was shot and killed by a Erick Gelhaus, a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy.

If what McManus says is true, this bill will not change how police approach potentially-armed standoffs.

The bill currently sits on Governor Jerry Brown’s desk.

  • I actually wondered why this did not happen sooner. As soon as it was mandated that “toy” guns had to have a orange tip. I thought to myself why not just paint your real gun. The Powers To Be also knew this and now are going to use it to further take away gun rights.

  • Hi Not from the US but Scotland, and it has been the custom to paint all toy weapons blue with orange tip for many years.

    • But Mike, you’re missing the point. How does this change any factors when a criminal can simply paint his REAL AK assault rifle blue, and put an orange tip on it too?

The answer isn’t in color scheming, it is in a combination of real punishment (criminals, get caught with a toy-painted rifle, get an extra 10-years, non-negotiable), and teaching children who play with toy guns that they should NEVER be pointed at adults – to just put them down, if an adult tells you to.

Sorry to say, this is America, home of the ‘idiot-warning-sticker’, and we have disavowed our people from the requirement of common-sense for decades now. The social engineering ramifications are clearly evident. Pet rocks have higher IQ’s than most of our brain-dead citizens now. The world ‘Powers-that-Be’ got their wish – we are merely sheep for the shearing. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
