(Before It's News)

AZ voters overwhelmingly reject federal education takeover

Arizona’s runaway winner in last Tuesday’s Primary Election was state Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate, Diane Douglas. The Republican’s landslide victory was one of the first races called on election night as she handily trounced incumbent John Huppenthal in a 58 to 41 stunning upset.

We all watched as Huppenthal imploded after first denying, then in the face of irrefutable evidence, being forced to admit, his bizarre postings on Arizona blogs —- including Seeing Red AZ. (KPHO-TV 5 video link). He lost decisively —- in the face of cozying up to Obama’s educrat point man Arne Duncan, oddly trumpeting the fact that he was escorting the liberal Duncan on a statewide tour.

The key point is that Diane Douglas won due to her unwavering opposition to the fed’s heavy handedness in promoting the increasingly unpopular Common Core. Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin has devoted the past two years to exposing the excesses of the federal mandates and the gutting of local control of education.

Last May, Malkin was an early endorser of Diane Douglas. This enthusiastic congratulatory post celebrates Douglas’ decisive Primary victory. In an unparalleled show of grassroots support, Douglas garnered the highest number of votes of any contested election, and beat all unopposed Democrats securing 16½ percent more votes than Dem gubernatorial candidate Fred DuVal.

Breitbart News’ Big Government has a thorough report detailing the plummeting support for Common Core, noting that three states, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Indiana have officially repealed the federal program. Thirty-four states, Arizona among them, have introduced anti-Common Core legislation. An additional 16 states have  either withdrawn or are in the process of withdrawing from the Common Core test consortia. Further, 27 states have introduced legislation that bans the use of PARCC or SBAC assessments:

Read the complete article for a full listing of the states that are retreating from the controversial education scheme. It has becoming increasingly clear that this Fed Ed program is a threat to parental educational choices including parochial and home schooling alternatives, since the “standards” are a de facto measurement for college admission.

Republican Diane Douglas is definitely on the right side of this wrongheaded issue.
