I have always asked how the news EARNED the implicit trust that people put into it. We were just taught that by school and our parents. However, they have no obligation at all to tell the truth nor do they suffer any consequences for lying. In fact, they probably gain more for lying! So why should they be motivated to tell the truth at all?
