The Federal Bureau of Investigation released an update stating that it will be out of service for half an hour this morning due to a system upgrade.
“The NICS is expected to be out of service for approximately 30 minutes this morning. We appreciate your patience on Sunday and apologize for any inconvenience,” said FBI spokeswoman Jill Montgomery via email.
She explained, “A major system upgrade was implemented yesterday to one of the FBI’s databases. It did cause some issues yesterday and the NICS was out of service for a few hours yesterday morning. Some issues persist with one of the databases that the NICS relies upon to conduct background checks. Because of such, we have had the NICS out of service this morning as well. We do not have an estimated time frame to provide to you at this time, but as we know more, we will certainly keep you apprized.”
The system should be up a running around 8:30 a.m. eastern.
