Pollster: AZ’s 2014 Guv race a squeaker
GOP state treasurer Doug Ducey, Leftist lobbyist Fred DuVal said to be in a 40% tie
Assessing the upcoming Arizona Governor’s race, Rasmussen Reports refers to the results of a new survey of 850 likely voters released Sunday, using the words “dead heat” and “toss-up.”
The Arizona Republic newspaper is engaging in similar whimsy. In a front page article the headline crows, “Dems see excellent chance to win state’s top offices.” The hard-left daily acknowledges Arizona Democrats lost every statewide race in 2010. With Obama’s own flagging numbers currently in free fall, savvy political watchers would not be likely to place large bets on a major leftward shift.
The upcoming election offers voters a real choice of repudiating the Obama brand of liberalism exemplified by career liberal Fred DuVal or moving forward with a Republican at the helm of state. Although lame duck Gov. Jan Brewer jubilantly stood with Doug Ducey on election night, she endorsed his squish opponent Scott Smith. Popular conservative, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio supported Doug Ducey, which sends a strong message and hopefully will serve to hold Ducey’s feet to the fire on issues of importance to conservatives, moving forward.
The Arizona Democrat primary ballot resembled that of the former USSR, with one candidate running for most top offices. The lack of choice resulted in a bottom-dragging voter turnout. The increasingly left-lurching party didn’t even bother to field a candidate for state treasurer, guaranteeing the GOP primary victor, Jeff DeWit will hold that important office.
Rasmussen’s gubernatorial survey map can be seen here. The survey questions are interest piquing, even tossing in a four-step range of favorable to unfavorable rankings for John McCain and his doppelganger Jeff Flake. Just months ago, the Daily Caller noted that the two U.S. Senators from Arizona have managed to sink their poll ratings to record lows, showing McCain at a dismal 30 percent approval rating with the border state voters, and Flake falling even lower to 27 percent approval.
The duo has felt the stinging backlash of weary Republican voters who reject their colluding with Democrats on brazen amnesty schemes that disregard the rule of law and our right to a sovereign, enforceable border —- while expanding Democrat registrations.
Arizona’s General Election will be held Nov. 4, 2014. Early voting begins Oct. 9. Registration closes Oct. 6 at midnight.
