When you think of places that are heavily guarded, what kind of places come to mind? Prisons, banks, schools? This list examines just ten of the many unusually guarded and secure places in the world.
The Cheyenne Mountain nuclear bunker was once used as the command center for NORAD, until the United States Northern Command & Air Force Space Command station was relocated to a basement in the Peterson No. 2 building in 2006. The complex is still guarded by a crew, but is no longer operated on a 24/7 basis. In fact, it is on warm standby, meaning it is only staffed when required. To give you a feel of how guarded this place was during the Cold War, the complex is protected by solid granite and is reinforced.
Bill Gates is a genius, I tell you. He was already programming at the age of 14 and foundedMicrosoft at the age of 20, while still a student at Harvard. By 1995, he was listed by Forbes as the richest man in the world. In 2006, he invested in the building on a Doomsday Seed Vault in Svalbard on the Barents Sea near the Arctic Ocean. The vault is just 1,100km away from the North Pole. The seed bank was built inside a mountain on Spitsbergen Island. It’s equipped with dual blast-proof doors with motion sensors, two airlocks, and walls of steel-reinforced concrete one meter thick. Bill Gates is not the only person to send his seeds to save his genes in case there is a disaster. 1,400 banks were invited by the Norwegian government to send their duplicate seeds as well.
The Alcatraz of the Rockies is another one of the most guarded prison in the world and the holding place of the most ruthless criminals and terrorists. It is important to mention that the cells found in this prison are completely made from concrete and the few windows included only provide a view of the sky. The inmates are mostly kept in solitary confinement and they cannot make any move without triggering a motion detector. Not that anyone would try anything considering the massive steel doors, the various gun towers and the attack guard dogs that are trained to attack at any sign of an escapee.
What is interesting about the vaults of the Mormon Church is that they are so secret that few people have actually heard of them. According to the representatives of the Mormon Church, the Vault is home to genealogic and historical records. On the other hand, rumor has it that special care is taken regarding the temperature control inside the vault and it includes motion and heat sensors able to withstand powerful earthquakes.
This is a super-maximum security prison for males in Colorado. The criminals are the most dangerous conmen in the United States. One former warden of the prison once described the place as the “cleaner version of health”. The prison resorts to the use attack dogs to guard the area. As well, there are 12 ft. high razor wire fences and 1, 400 remotely controlled steel doors, laser beams, and pressure pads, and cameras surrounding the premises. I thought murder in the first degree would necessitate this treatment, but I guess I was wrong.
why the hell are they guarding fort knox?? it’s not like they have any actual gold anymore!!
