People are traveling every day: they fly, they use trains, but most of the time they drive. And there is nothing more exciting than a road trip with great views, than a road that will show you the most beautiful sunsets, mountain cliffs, or sea sides. Luckily, during the time, people managed to people roads with spectacular views: mountain passes, coastal highways, scenic routes through forests, or bridges over canyons or spans of water.
As you can imagine, there are hundreds of scenic routes in the world, but we gather here the most beautiful roads that you must drive in your life, at least once. Here are the best 10 of them:
10. China – The Guoliang Tunnel Road
Just imagine a tunnel carved through a red rock mountain in China; because that is the Guoliang Tunnel Road. It is located in the Taihang Mountains, which you will find in the Chinese Province of Henan. Those who want to drive on this road must start their trip in Xinxiang, and get out of the city to the North, on Huanyu Avenue, the S229. Drive 13 miles on the highway, until you arrive in the town of Huixian. Keep the S229 for 13 more miles. Do not change to S228, but turn left and drive more 8 miles to Nanzhaizen. Here you will find the directions to Guoling, and in 8 miles you will reach the road.
9. France – Col de Turini
If you’ve always dreamed to drive though the Alps, you need to choose this road. Situated in the Alpes Maritimes in France, the Colde Turini (1607 m) is a mountain-pass between communed of Moulinet and La Bollene-Vesubie, in the Nice Area. The road has been already famous, because it was included in the Monte Carlo Rally, and also in the Tour de France, three times (1948, 1959, and 1975). The road has 15.3 kilometers, and it starts in the valley of the Vesubie River.
8. Italy – Stelvio Pass in Eastern Alps
This is another great road in the Alps, this time in Italy. The Stelvio Pass (2757 m) is the highest paved road in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest mountain pass in the entire Alps. It is slightly below the Col de l’Iseran, which has 2770 meters. The automotive show Top Gear chose this road as the “greatest driving road in the world, but they were searching only in Europe. Later, they’ve considered the Transfagarasan road in Romania superior to this one, but Stelvio Pass still deserves to be in our top. Before the end of World War I, it formed the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Italian Kingdom.
7. South Africa – Chapman’s Peak Drive in Cape Town
Built between Noordhoek and Hout Bay, on the coast of the Atlantic, Chapman’s Peak Drive is a 9 kilometer road, with 114 curves. It is not very high (583 meters), but it offers unique, stunning 170 degrees views over the entire areas where you can stop and take in the exquisite scenery or sit down for a relaxing picnic.. The “Chappies” offers many stop points, were you can enjoy the views and take pictures of the exquisite scenery.
6. USA – Seven Mile Bridge in Florida
If you arrive in Florida, you must drive on the Seven Mile Bridge, famous in the entire Monroe County. The bridge was built to connect the Knight’s Key in the city of Marathon – the Middle Keys, to the Lower Keys – the Little Duck Key. When it was built, it was the longest bridge in the world, and it was called the Overseas Highway.
