WHO: Ebola Outlook Is ‘Bleak’

(Before It's News)

The World Health Organization has issued a very frightening report that basically says as worried as we’ve all been about Ebola in West Africa, things are much, much worse.

The report, which was co-authored by one of the scientists who first discovered the disease, says containment efforts are simply inadequate and nothing in the planning stages will be able to realistically tackle the disease, which has already infected and killed thousands of victims.

The world community, in no uncertain terms, comes in for the lion’s share of blame, failing to respond to what an editorial in the same medical journal suggested was a containable crisis.

Instead, it’s possible that the outbreak could become endemic, meaning a long-term problem that poses a long-term threat to the rest of the world, to say nothing of the unfortunate people living in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

According to researchers, Ebola kills 70 percent of infected patients.

As I type this, the United States has begun bombing targets in Syria, at the cost of billions of dollars, in an effort to contain the threat posed by radical Islamic militants. Meanwhile, doctors are telling us that West Africa is about to become ground zero for a plague that could pose a much more pressing threat to the rest of the world for years to come.
