Check out these top 5 timeless shades, written by Alex Noudelman for Glasses on Web.
1. Ray-Ban Aviator
This is an old favorite of mine. The aviator sunglasses were trending in the 80s and are still popular in the 2010s. It was made specifically with the pilots in mind, thus the name. These Aviators became huge when Tome Cruise wore them in the 1986 box-office smash hit Top Gun. The aviator style quickly became synonymous with sleek, sexy and bold. And because these Ray-Bans are very versatile, these sunglasses naturally increased in popularity.
2. Ray-Ban Wayfarer
Another strong style that Ray-Ban has made are the Wayfarer. It became quite popular when it was first launched in the 1950s. It was also the first time the Ray-Ban used plastic for frames. The Wayfarer are still timeless and popular with the general public along with celebrities well into the 21st century.
3. Ray-Ban Clubmaster
Another popular Ray-Ban style are the Clubmaster series, which were first released in the 1950s. Although they achieved the peak of their popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, it wasn’t until AMC’s Mad Men TV series brought these sleepers back into mainstream acceptance.
4. Ray-Ban Predator
The Predator style was made popular by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in the movie Men in Black. The now iconic rectangular design is both unmistakably athletic and sexy. The understated design makes it very versatile and can fit different face shapes.
5. Persol
The brand has been around for almost a century and is one of the oldest and respected sunglasses makers in the world. Each frame is still hand-made in the historic factory in Lauriano and remains one of my favorite sunglasses brands. Hollywood classic Steve McQueen is best known for wearing Persol 0649. Most of the James Bond stars were also known to sport this brand’s eyewear. And you can’t forgot Hollywood actor Johnny Depp who loves his Persol sunglasses so much that has a whole collection.
