Artur Mas: Catalonia referendum will go ahead

Artur Mas, the combative president of Catalonia, has vowed to press ahead with a referendum on independence from Spain – despite an earlier declaration that the vote had been cancelled.

On Tuesday morning Mariano Rajoy, the Spanish prime minister, welcomed an apparent declaration from the Catalan government that the referendum could not go ahead.
