Depression is a serious illness that affects more than 17 million Americans, and includes higher rates of depression in women as compared to men. Grief, trauma, social isolation and major life changes can trigger or cause depression. The key to alleviating depressive symptoms is to recognize the signs and get help as soon as possible.
