A once in a lifetime event. A solar eclipse is expected to wow North America and cause a meteor shower at the same time, according to NASA. This is an event that must not be missed. If you do, a puppy may whimper. The good thing about this is you do not need a telescope to see the Sun.
On Thursday afternoon and evening, an eclipse is expected to happen. NASA scientist Dr. Grume expects the eclipse to be visible with the naked eye, and without the use of a telescope. “It’s quite amazing really, the event will be seen without high power magnification,” said Grume. “People can use a telescope to see it, but we do not recommend the action as it could be bad. According to our studies, looking at the Sun with a telescope may burn a hole through your brain in less than one second of viewing.”
Grume and his team have been tracking a meteor shower in the area as well. “A remarkable event will hit at the same time as the eclipse,” said Grume. “A meteor shower that we will be calling the Orionid Meteor Shower; a new shower, will hit at the same time, producing fireballs that again you do not even need a telescope for.
NASA is expecting to use the Lunar Orbiter to snap a selfie with the Sun. “If you want to know where your tax dollars are going, we’re going to have some fun with the Lunar Orbiter and do a selfie contest!”, concluded Grume.
