Made By: Hans Gieng
Location: Bern, Switzerland
Nobody knows why this creepy-looking statute was commissioned back in 1546. There are a couple of theories about its origins. The first is that the Kindlifresser was built as a warning to the Jewish community. The hat is similar to the yellow pointed Judenhut that Jewish people were forced to wear at that time. Another theory speculates that an Ogre is a depiction of Kronos, the Greek Titan. Kronos has one of the most disturbing stories in Greek mythology – he eats all gd children to keep them from taking over his throne.
