A magnitude-5.1 earthquake rocked Peru’s Amazonas region on Sunday, but no injuries or damage have been reported, the Peruvian Geophysics Institute, or IGP, said.
The temblor occurred at 8:26 a.m. and had its epicenter 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) north of Bagua province near the northern border with Ecuador.
Peru is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of frequent quakes and volcano activity.
The Pacific Ring of Fire accounts for about 85 percent of the world’s seismic activity.
A magnitude-5.6 earthquake injured 16 people in Ica, a region in southern Peru, in February.
