You have to wonder what makes a genetic engineer’s mind tick. Victor Frankenstein claimed to be creating his monster for the betterment of humankind, but it seems more likely that he did so out of arrogance or a desire to play God. When you read about the 7 genetically engineered animals that have been created in the last few decades, you might ask yourself – exactly what motivates the biotech industry? 1. Dolly the Sheep
The first ever GMO mammal, Dolly the sheep was put to sleep in February of 2003 after she was discovered to have a progressive lung disease. She was ‘born’ on July 5, 1996 after researched by Dr. Ian Wilmut and his team from the Roslin Institute research centre.
