Bruce Springsteen to receive award for help in improving veterans lives

The Friars club announced Tuesday that Bruce Springsteen, a.k.a “The Boss,” will receive one of ten first-ever Lincoln Awards in honor of his contributions in improving the lives of veterans.
The awards will be presented at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Jan. 6, the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural address, at which time Lincoln asked the country “to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan.”
The Boss, whose songs ring of patriotism and difficulties faced by veterans, will be given the Entertainer Award.
Other honorees include Ken Fisher of the Fisher House Foundation, which builds homes on military campuses for families of wounded veterans who are getting care; Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway, who contributed to the science of bionic arms for wounded veterans; Walmart, for providing jobs for 100,000 veterans and 150,000 of their family members; Retired Rear Adm. Dick Young for lifetime achievement in service to other veterans; and former intelligence specialist Kayla Williams for writing two military memoirs.
