We sat down with Rob Richardson, publisher of Off Grid Survival and author of The Ultimate Situational Survival Guide: Self-Reliance Strategies for a Dangerous World“ to discuss how to be better prepared for the coming winter and every other season we experience.

We begin the conversation discussing “no-knock raids” that are sweeping the country. How does one prepare for a no-knock raid or “swatting”? Since when did it become acceptable for local, state or federal authorities to break into peoples homes and flash bomb infants?

“It’s scary. I’m seeing the same thing. Where you the police going to the wrong address, a random family member that used to live there or they’ve seen the same last name.”

Is it just me or does that sound like a desperate criminal attempting to steal enough goods to be able to get more drugs and simply breaks into someones home in the earliest part of the day.

Or even better, someone calls in fake information and a SWAT Team shows up at your house! We can not actually prepare for this situation except to be aware that it is happening and it is happening randomly all over the country. In 2012 there were more 20,000 no-knock raids conducted across the country. While the number is small, compared to the number of physical houses, the number becomes irrelevant if it involves your family or a loved one. Just being aware could possibly save someone’s life.

With the militarization of local police forces across the country it is becoming all too clear there are two sets of laws. One set of laws for the political and banker class and then actual laws for everyone else–which is the majority of people. The local police in Middle Tennessee have become notorious for stealing peoples possessions, most notably money, for no reason at all. The number of MRAP’s made available to the local departments is approximately 13,000. Not a mis-print–13,000, distributed in only 50 states means each state has received an average of 260!! Tennessee only has 95 counties which means each county has been allotted more than 2 of these vehicles–“for the children”. Don’t you feel safer knowing this vehicle could be pulling up at your house because one of the neighborhood kids played a prank on you and your family?

It’s a pretty crazy place where we come to. The fear-mongering between the media and government it’s convinced people that their local police forces need these things. I don’t get it.”

We then turn our attention to covering winter preps and what short term and long short should consist. Is a 72 hour bag necessary? What should be in it? What about water, how much per person? What is the difference between a short term disaster scenario and a long term disaster scenario, should I prepare differently for these situations?

Rob does a great job of detailing the information you need now in order to be better prepared in the coming weeks, months and years.
