It was discovered in 1933 by an American adventurer James Angel and to honor him this waterfall was named after him. The waterfall is world’s highest waterfall and is about 3212 feet (979 meters) high. The official height of the falls was determined by a survey carried out by an expedition organized and financed by American journalist Ruth Robertson on 13 May 1949.
